Las Vegas Days and Nights

We're in Las Vegas with Jerry and Peggy Brown. If Jerry and Peggy had invited us to Las Vegas to play blackjack or roulette or poker, we wouldn't be in Las Vegas. We wouldn't be here if they had asked us to go to the rodeo, which my students recommended, or to cruise any number of casinos.

But that wouldn't have happened anyway, because Jerry and Peggy are kindred spirits. So tomorrow we'll hit some art galleries, including an Andy Warhol exhibit, and at some point we'll go to a show. But being non-planners, all that us still up in the air. We'll get up when we please, and we'll wait until the last breakfast is eating, and then we'll stroll out.

During all of that I'll try to take some photos like this one I took from our room or like Bill Cunningham shoots. Only I won't be riding a bike, and I won't be commenting on fashions of Las Vegas, because, hey, this isn't New York City. But I'm happy to be here with Louise and some good friends.

  1. All I know is that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, so stroll the art to your hearts content. Just know that I read a huge discussion online about if you should pay tithing on gambling/lottery winnings and the universal consensus was no. Heavenly Father may not want your filthy lucre, but I'm not too proud to accept a windfall of your winnings. Louise and her sisters regularly play cards, right? Let's put her skills to good use and see what happens.
The only direct advice I have about Vegas is to avoid the slot machines. On my one and only visit to Vegas, my father-in-law gave me a cup of nickels to put in the slots. I felt stupid feeding the machine knowing full well I wasn't going to get a thing. At least when I put money in a machine I get a cup of hot chocolate or a candy bar out of it. Slot machines are dumb.

    1. Fear not, Heather. We won't be coming home with any winnings, and we won't try to pay tithing on them, since we won't have them. I'm a complete innocent in a casino, as is Louise. Her card playing amounts to a simple little game called "Golf," and it has nothing to do with exchanging anything except a medal her sisters made up.

  2. I am one of those people that love Las Vegas because I just find it so fun that you can eat a full dinner at 2 AM and all the people watching and the fact it is in the middle of nowhere!

  4. I love your photo with the indoor light reflections and the varying intensity and patterns of outdoor lights. Vegas is such a weird town. Did you know there are no public sidewalks on or around the strip? They all belong to the individual properties behind them. I did enjoy the mob museum last time I was there, which was a surprise. Also enjoyed Zarkana.
